Sunscreen Products: They’ve Come A Long Way

We each are given only one body in this life. We have to take care of it in order to get the best use out of it and to keep from getting ill or having other complications that make our lives more difficult or painful. Our skin is no exception. Many complications with skin can be avoided by using sunscreen products.

In 1944 one of the very first commercially sold sunscreen products came available. It was a red goo similar in consistency to petroleum jelly. Maybe it did the trick, but the question is, was it worth putting that gunk on for the results it gave?

Fortunately for us all we have a lot more to choose from when it comes to sunscreen products today. There are sunscreens that go on clear and sunblock that has a more opaque appearance. Both of these block out or absorb UV rays so they won’t damage your skin, but sunblock blocks out most UVA/UVB rays as well.

It wasn’t too long ago that there were basically one or two kinds of sunscreen. You could get a cream or lotion, or for some of the products with lower SPF you could get tanning oil. This was a huge improvement on the original sunscreen, but today we have even more options.

Probably one of the most significant improvements in sunscreen in recent years is the method of application. Globbing a bunch of lotion or cream onto your hands and smoothing it over your body is not the most effective way to get a good, even coating of the stuff on you, as where you begin will inevitably have more than where you end.

One newer sunscreen product is a roll-on lotion. This is fun and easy to use. It looks like a deodorant roller and you roll it over your body, and then rub it in with your hands. This is simple and even fun for kids to do.

One of the preferred sunscreen products is the kind that comes in a spray form. This is also very easy to use and can be sprayed everywhere. This is a similar idea to the roll on, but even simpler.

Sunscreen products have evolved in other ways, too. You can purchase sunscreen that goes on in a certain color. This makes it easy to see where you are putting it and is an added element of fun and motivation for kids. As you rub it in it absorbs to transparency.

Another type of sunscreen product is the kind that has glitter in them. For women and girls this gives your skin a shimmery appearance that looks beautiful in the sun, all while protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.

The more we learn about sun damage the more we are realizing the importance of protecting our skin. Along with this conscientiousness it is becoming increasingly easy to us that protection with the helpful sunscreen products available on the market.
